Using AskGermany
Is this an official government service?
No. AskGermany is an independent prototype. It links to the official authorities, which make every decision.
Which languages can I use?
English, German or another language. Answers follow the language you write in and keep the German official terms in brackets, like residence registration (Anmeldung).
Can I apply for something here?
Not yet. AskGermany explains what to do and links to the official online service or office. See where AskGermany could go.
Why does it ask for my city?
Many services, like registering an address, are handled by your city. Knowing your city or postcode lets AskGermany find your city’s and state’s rules.
Answers and sources
Where do answers come from?
Only from official federal, state and city government websites. Every fact links to the page it came from.
Can the AI be wrong?
Yes. It can misread a page or miss a detail. Open the numbered sources to check, especially for deadlines and fees, and confirm with the authority before you act.
Why is my town missing?
AskGermany covers the federal government, all 16 states and the larger cities. For smaller towns you’ll get the state rules and a link to find your local office.
Privacy
Is my conversation saved?
Not by AskGermany. It lives only in your browser tab and disappears when you leave. Read the privacy policy.
Should I share personal details?
No. You never need to share your name, birth date, tax ID or account numbers to get an answer.
